Pudge was built in 1922 by The London and Rochester Trading Co. Ltd. She is spritsail rigged with a sail area of around 3,000 square feet. In 1935 she gained an engine and continued in trade until bought by the Thames Barge Sailing Club in 1968. By that time she was operating as a motor barge only. The club re-rigged her and she has been sailing ever since. Her cargo hold has been converted and now comprises a large comfortable saloon and galley, with sleeping accommodation in two and four berth cabins.
This photo was taken from the barge boat on Saturday as we were at anchor in the Colne.
