Approachiong Maldon

Approaching Maldon

Kevin in the eyes of the barge as we approach Maldon. He is leaning on the windlass that is used for the anchor, whose massive wooden supports (the bitts) also carry the dolly winch. Behind him is the entrance to the fo'c'sle, which is the mate's cabin. The foresail is neatly stowed on the right of the picture, but the staysail is still bent on.

At the left the barge George Smeed lies on the blocks at Cook's Yard, where she has been undergoing a complete rebuild over a number of years.
