CRAB WINCH

Cathy at the crab-winch

The two crab-winches (one either side of the barge) are used for controlling the lee-boards, the large boards either side of the hull that are dropped to act rather like a keel and limit the leeway the barge makes. The winches are also used at times for tightening the vangs, the ropes that control the position of the top of the mainsail.
