Stop gate below Thames lock

A little way below Thames Lock, the first on the River Wey Navigation, lie this stop-gate. This enable the lock itself and the short stretch between it and the gate to be used like a staircase lock, which is needed to get deep-draughted boats over the cill of the lock. The pair Brighton & Nuneaton are just visible beyond the gate.
