Stoke Hammond lockSeen here from downstream. As in some other location on the Grand Junction, the double-arched bridge dates from the time when narrow locks were added alongside the original broad ones as a water-saving measure. The roof on the left is of the pump-house that was built for one of the Northern engines that were built to back-pump from the Milton Keynes pound (as we now know it) to the Tring Summit. |
