Monkey Marsh lock
Like all the locks on the River Kennet Navigation, this was originally turf-sided. When it was restored, the original profile of the turf-sides we re-created in concrete and clad with artificial turf. It became known as the astro-turf-sided lock. The astro-turf didn't survive very long, and the concrete sides have now been overgrown by natural vegetation, so the appearance at last approximates to the original.. That's helped by the fact that some of the footways and safety-rails have since been removed.
