City of Bristol Docks

These are Bristol's historic docks, as opposed to the modern commercial docks further downstream at Avonmouth and Portbury.

The historic docks, originally known as the Floating Harbour, were created in 1803 by William Jessop by impounding sections of the rivers Avon and Frome in the centre of the city. In 1848 they were improved by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Here we are looking up the arm formed by the impounded section of the River Frome.
