The Bratch

The three locks here are famous for not quite forming a staircase. According to some commentators they were originally built as a staircase and later modified to save water. I don't know whether that's true. This was, I believe, the first time we'd seen them stripped of their anachronistic whitewash and returned to their original natural brick surface.
