Old Turn JunctionThis has a complicated history. Originally the Birmingham Canal's main line here followed what is not the Oozells Street Loop and the junction (then called Deep Cutting Junction) was where the canal divided into two branches, one the Gas Street and the other to Cambrian Wharf & Newhall Street. What's left of the Newhall Street Branch (where we're looking in this picture) is now often taken to be the beginning of the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal. Later the BCN main line was straightened, creating a fourth waterway at the junction. |
