Water Newton lock

Water weiring over the top gates. Because Nene locks have a dual purpose, as navigation locks and as water-control structures, they are designed so that if the river is above normal level, the water weirs over the top gates and out through the bottom guillotine, which always has to be left open. I understand that nowadays the EA is gradually rebuilding the locks as conventional ones wiuth separate water-control structures.
