Trevor basin
Pontcysyllte aqueduct is behind the photographer, and the route to Llangollen turns off to the left. Straight ahead is Trevor basin, the remaining bit of what was to be the original main line to Ruabon and across the mountains to Chester. Unsurprisingly that project was abandoned as too ambitious.
