This is the famous tourist view of Worsley. Packet Boat House was the terminus of passenger boat services into Manchester. Behind the photographer is the way to Manchester. To the right is the short arm leading to the Duke's mines at Worsley Delph. The branch on the left was originally intended to go to the Mersey at the Hempstones, but was never completed. It was later re-used as part of the line to join the Leeds & Liverpool Canal's branch at Leigh.
