The bridge in the centre of the picture marks the end of the Peak Forest Canal. The Ashton-under-Lyne canal goes across at a right angle. To the left is its main line leading into Manchester. To the right a shirt arm leads to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, then uner process of restoration but now re-opened.
