A lazy start was made at 11:02, after showers for all and breakfast inside because of heavy rain. . The weather cleared up by mid-afternoon. At Penkridge wharf we watered. The weather got really pleasant by early evening and persuaded us to keep going for longer than we might otherwise have done. Fairly recent piling & dredging were very much in evidence on the summit. We enjoyed the attractive scenery with interesting farmland. Near Aldersley junction we moored at 20: 02 in a pretty, wooded stretch. Peter cooked dinner, including a remarkable sherry & mushroom sauce.

A misty morning with an 07:17 start led to a nice day. From Aldersley we proceeded to Autherley junction and turned onto the Birmingham & Liverpool Junction Canal section of the "Shroppie".

We stopped by Stretton aqueduct for breakfast & sight-seeing. This was where, according to some historians Telford's, Birmingham & Liverpool Junction Canal crossed his Holyhead Road.

The Shroppie had many Goldeneye ducks & ducklings as wll as the more usual sorts, lots of kingfishers & beautiful honeysuckle. We had lunch at The Boat (Marston's) at Gnosall, watered at Norbury junction and went on to moor for the night at 19:02 at Tyrley wharf, a very pleasant place with nicely restored canal buildings.
