This branch falls from the Wirral Line (of what was originally the Ellesmere Canal) at Dee Junction to the tidal River Dee. Here we are looking down the branch from its top lock. It is, in fact, the original line of the Wirral Branch which used to join the main line (then the Chester Canal) at its terminal basin by the river. Later Tower Wharf (out of shot on the left of this picture) was built and the two lines joined at their present junction, at the level of the main length of the Wirral line.
