Old West

Old West River

The Old West River is the stretch from Hermitage Lock to the confluence with the Cam. It is narrow and reedy because it doesn't carry much current. Because of the complicated history of land drainage in the fenlands, what flow there is in this section of the river is now in the opposite direction to what it was at one time, when the Great Ouse was a tributary of the Nene.
