Marple junction

Perhaps the most-photographed of all the Macclesfield's "snake" turnover bridges is this one, no.1 across the junction with the Peak Forest Canal. It's seen here as we re-enter the canal after winding.

I assume that the narrows a this point were originally a gauging stop and a stop lock (there are remains of gate recesses).
