Whittington

In 1779, both the Oxford and Coventry Canal Companies had run out of money before they'd completed their canals. This was a problem for other canal companies who needed the connections these two canals would provide. At a meeting at Coleshill, it was decided (among other things) that the Coventry Canal Co. would complete its line as far as Fazeley, the Birmingham & Fazeley would build the next section as far as Whittington Brook, and the Trent & Mersey the section from there to Fradley, This was done. The T&M section was later sold to the Coventry Co., but remained detached from the main length of that canal by the section that remained in the ownership of the B&F.

I think this boundary stone is the wrong way round.
