Joule's breweryThe former Joule's Brewery, which closed down some years before we first cruised this way in 1976 (although at that time whoever had taken them over was still using their name on a draught bitter). James Joule (1818-89), the physicist, was a member of the brewing family, and is reputed to have done his experiments on work and heat (which led to the physical law named after him) on the brewery premises. |
