Denham AqueductThis takes the canal over Fray's River immediately above Denham Deep lock, and is the reason why the lock is so deep. The original plan was to have two shallower locks with a level crossing of the river, but the millers on the river managed to get a clause added to the enabling Act to prevent any direct connection between the river and the canal at this point, so there had to be an aqueduct and a single deep lock. |
