Old Ford tide gates

We are passing the remains of Old Ford tide gates. Until Carpenters Road lock and Prescott Sluice were built in the 1930s, the tide used to flow to this point, where there were tide gates. The stone structure shown was originally a central island between two sets of gates, but the off-side channel has been deliberately allowed to silt up to provide wildlife habitat. The brock pillar originally supported a footbridge.
