LIMEHOUSE BASIN

LIMEHOUSE BASIN

This view from the top of the hydraulic accumulator tower shows Limehouse Basin during the 1997 Limehouse Festival. The tide lock is in the background left, with the polygonal Lock-keeper's Office to the right of it and the HQ of the Cruising Association on its left. The marina on the far side of the basin is a permanent feature, but the narrowboats in the foreground are on temporary moorings for the Rally. The lower level of ground to which they are moored is the roof of the Docklands road tunnel. Since this photo was taken, building work has been completed on that section and a new walkway along that side of the basin opened.
