Limehouse Lock

Limehouse tide lock

The present lock, designed for pleasure craft, has horizontally-pivoting sectoral gates. It was built in 1989, totally within the structure of the old (1870) ship lock. It is keeper-operated, and can be worked at all states of the tide except Low Water Springs. It is normally staffed in BW working hours, but can be pre-booked for passages at other times. Since this photo was taken, the buildings on the far side of the basin have been completed, and the walkway along that side of the basin re-opened.
