This view from the towpath through Regent's Park shows Cumberland Turn. The exotic vessel (centre) is a static barge converted into a Chinese restaurant. The main line of the navigation turns left (between the bridge and the Chinese restaurant barge) on its way to Camden Town. The sharp turn marks a change of plans when the Prince Regent realised that the canal would be carrying cargo barges rather than genteel pleasure boats and made the Canal Company route it round the edge of Regent's Park in a cutting, rather than through the centre of the Park as a decorative feature. The stub arm on the right is all that is left of the Cumberland Arm, a branch built to serve some markets near Euston. Most of the arm was filled in with bomb-damage rubble after WW2, and the Zoo car park was built over it.
