City Road lock

City Road lock

City Road Basin leads off to the left foreground. This was the biggest trading basin on the Regent's canal. What is left is about two-thirds of the original basin. At one stage it was the base for FMC's steam-powered fly-boat services to Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham. The former lock cottage (centre, behind the trees) is now the offices of IWAAC. At the time of writing (December 2001) a new development is being built on the far left of the area shown in this shot.
