Old Limehouse lock

Site of the old Limehouse lock

This "water feature" in a new development marks the site of the former lock where the Limehouse Cut used to connect with the Thames. The cottages are the original lockside ones, renovated as part of the redevelopment. The lock was closed in 1968 and one of the winches used for working the gates was taken to Camden Town and preserved alongside Hampstead Road Lock. (See a photo in the Regent's Canal pages.)
