The Anchor and Hope pub is almost next door to the former Ferry Boat Inn (the red-brick building), now closed. The name of the latter comes from the fact that there used to be a ferry here. Until recently, another pub, the Robin Hood, used to be just out of sight behind the Ferry Boat Inn. Sadly it was demolished in 2001.
Walthamstow Marshes across the cut were the site of the IWA National Rally in 1980.
