Bow locks

Bow locks

Work in progress modifying Bow Locks in order to keep the tide out of what had hitherto been the semi-tidal Bow River section of the Lee Navigation, the Limehouse Cut, Limehouse Basin and the loop of the Bow Back Rivers. One lock at Bow was taken out of action and walled off from Bow Creek at a level high enough to keep out the tide. The other lock (shown here) was modified to have two pairs of gates (taller then their predecessors) at each end, so that it could be operated whether the tide was higher or lower than the maintained level. The work was completed by the end of 2000.
