Bow Locks

Work in progress modifying Bow Locks in order to keep the tide out of what had hitherto been the semi-tidal Bow River section of the Lee Navigation, the Limehouse Cut, Limehouse Basin and the loop of the Bow Back Rivers. The purpose of this work on the locks was to cure the problems of siltation caused by the tide in this section.

One lock at Bow was taken out of action and walled off from Bow Creek at a level high enough to keep out the tide. The other lock was modified to have two pairs of gates (taller then their predecessors) at each end, so that it could be operated whether the tide was higher or lower than the maintained level.

Associated this was building a flood wall along the spit of land separating the Bow River from Bow Creek from the locks to Three Mills, and raising the levels of various other structures including Three Mills Weir. The work was completed by the end of 2000.
