Packet Boat Dock

Packet Boat Dock, Cowley Peachey

Seen from the landward side. The canal is beyond the towpath bridge, through which we see boats on the moorings opposite, at the ‘Turning Point’.

During the 19th century, this dock was the base of a high-speed packet-boat service carrying passengers on the lock-free run to Paddington. The neighbouring ‘Paddington Packet’ pub takes its name from the same source.
