The Old River Lee is the original main course of the river, which leaves the navigation below Old Ford Locks (see another picture). It forms the northern side of the semi-tidal loop of the Bow Back Rivers as far as Carpenters Road Lock, where it joins the Waterworks River, which now carries the main flow of the River Lea and of the tide. The bridge on the right is over the junction with the Pudding Mill River, which once headed south to join St Thomas' Creek, but now has its southern half filled in. The remains of Old Ford tide gates are in the background.
