Boats on the loop.

An attempt on the loop

During the Three Mills Rally in 2000, a group of small craft including Dave Briant's 17ft cruiser Ursa Minor tried to get round the "navigable" semi-tidal loop of the Bow Back Rivers, with mixed success. Ursa Minor couldn't get through the combination of silt and Floating Pennywort, but the canoe and coracles did manage, albeit not without difficulty. This was despite the fact that they took the opportunity to make the attempt when a high tide had topped the rivers up to well above the normal maintained level.

Here the four boats are making their way along the Old River Lee with (I think) Beryl Windsor leading the way in the kayak.
