LOCALLY-BASED PETITIONS

To supplement our main paper petition and our e-petition, we are now launching some constituency-based ones. This is at the suggestion of Tony Baldry, MP. These have the advantage that they can be presented in the House, by the MP, who can speak about them, which is good high-profile stuff. A number of MPs have already agreed to present petitions in this way.

They are adjuncts to our main written petition, with the same text, so we don't necessarily need a huge number of signatures on each of them, as the presenting MP can refer to the grand total on all our paper petitions (now around 26,000). The only difference in the wording is that the petition declares itself as being from "the constituents of [where-ever] and other users of Britain's inland waterways". This wording also removes any necessity for every signature to be from an actual constituent of the MP concerned. Even if your MP doesn't agree to present the petition in person, the signatures you collect can still be aggregated with our main written petition.

We hope to prepare such petitions for the constituencies of all our March events and any others where the MP has agreed to help us in this way. The ones listed below can be downloaded (they are in PDF format). Others should be added within the next few days. If you live in one of the relevant constituencies, please download your local form of the petition and use that for collecting signatures.

Please note that all completed petition sheets should be returned to the address on the foot of the sheet, by first-class post, posted no later than Monday 5^th March, in order that they can be sorted and counted in time for submission a few days after that date.
