IWA Chester & District Branch had a highly successful
demo at Middlewich last Saturday (as well as Chester and Anderton).
At Middlewich we managed to fill the junction with 26 boats
thanks to support from Middlewich Narrowboats (6 boats), Kings Lock boatyard (4
boats from Steve Wedgwood), Andersen Boats (one boat) and numerous private
boats. All demonstrated with banners and plackards and an army of foot
volunteers toured the town centre with petition forms and leaflets. As cars and
lorries passed us they hooted their support.
One volunteer actually hung up Royal Navy Signal Flags
spelling NO TO DEFRA CUTS which was quite novelty as people tried to
decipher what they said. We got our message over to hundreds of people and
obtained hundreds of signatures. Our other two sites will be contacting you
with their news.
We hope that this, together with all the other blockades,
will help to right this terrible wrong which has been thrust upon us.
