Soulsby MP (Leicester South) former Board Member of British Waterways
and a former Deputy Chairman of The Waterways Trust, very well known by many in
IWA, secured a 1½ hour Adjournment debate on our area of concern under
the title Impact of grant reductions on the work of British Waterways.
The debate was due to take place in Westminster Hall on Wednesday 8th November,
but all Westminster Hall debates on that day were cancelled when Parliament was
prorogued (i.e. the Parliamentary Session ended). |

Motion 2863 was tabled on 25 October by Paul Rowan MP, and deals with the
effect of the cuts on the Rochdale Canal. It gained 32 signatures. |

Motion 2829 was tabled on 23 October by David Drew MP and deals with EA
funding. It gained 69 signatures. |

On 17 October
Charlotte Atkins MP tabled an Early Day Motion (number 2757) in the House of
Commons calling for funding to be returned to the waterways and remain so into
the future. The wording of the motion is on the House of Commons website, along
with the list of MPs who have signed it - 163 when the Parliamentary Session
finished on 7 November. |
