Save our Waterways

This AGM expresses its concern that DEFRA has reduced British Waterways grant by 15% this year resulting in a devastating effect upon the inland waterways. This AGM further notes that 180 British Waterways staff are to loose their jobs and that canals are likely to be closed.

This AGM believes that these cuts will have a detrimental effect on the environment

This AGM further notes that more freight is being transported and that regenerated waterways are at the heart of many inner city improvement.

This AGM

1. welcomes the Save our Waterways campaign
2. calls for
   a) The government to immediately reverse the cuts imposed on British Waterways and to ensure that long term funding is guarantee to enable continued investment and restoration of the waterways
   b) The parliamentary party to sign Early Day Motions 50, 53 and 90"
