HUMOUR

Ruthless Rhymes for Beastly Boaters

by Stanley Holland (with apologies to the late Harry Graham)

As I was coming down the Shroppie,
The Missus got distinctly stroppy,
And so I shut her in the galley,
And kept here there throughout the Rally.

I felt that I should not applaud
When Pa threw Baby overboard,
And Mummy cried in great distress,
“Daddy, darling, mind her dress.”

The windlass slipped and hit Jim’s head,
He gave a cry and dropped down dead.
I would have run to help him, but
He’d dropped my mobile in the cut.

While on a lengthy inland cruise,
I wrote to Maud with all the news,
And then I heard she’d died of cramp -
Just too late to save the stamp.
