Boatyard & crane
Ready for the lift

On Monday 11 April 2005, Wendy & I travelled up to Orion's boatyard to see our new boat go into the water for the first time. It was the first time Wendy had seen the boat, and when it came out of the shed it was my first opportunity to stand back and see the whole boat at once. We were absolutely delighted with what we saw.

The boatyard was having a busy day of craning. In addition to our boat there were four others to be put in the water, four to be taken out for hull-blacking and two to be taken out for hull surveys then put back in. It was a delight to see the confidence and precision of the work by very experienced boatyard staff and a crane-driver who works with them regularly.

Next the engine was craned into place.

Steel for another new boat

They didn't waste much time. Once the crane had finished what it had to do for us, the steel for the base-plate of the next boat to be started was moved into the fabricating shed.

We shan't see the boat for about three weeks now, by which time we expect that she should be ballasted and the interior battened out ready for lining.
